Based at Brighton Police Station, the Anti-Victimisation Unit (AVU) has a vacancy for the role of LGBT Liaison Officer. The AVU is a police specialist investigations team that investigates domestic violence, racial and homophobic crimes and honour based violence in the Brighton & Hove Area. The team also works closely with partner agencies to support victims and reduce domestic violence and hate crime.

 

In this role, you’ll encourage the reporting of homophobic crime and ensure members of the LGBT community receive an appropriate service including providing protective measures to victims of and witnesses to homophobic incidents. Performing a witness liaison role following a homophobic incident, you’ll also work with supportive agencies to facilitate on-going support to victims and witnesses and establish and maintain links with the community to build trust and confidence between them and the police.

 

Working to the highest professional and ethical standards, you’ll possess excellent communication, organisational and IT skills (word and excel) and have the ability to work in a busy environment. An in-depth knowledge of the LGBT Community and the issues surrounding trust and confidence with the police is also essential.

 

The post involves working 37 hours per work between 0800 and 2200 hours, Monday – Friday, as well as weekends as required. A significant number of meetings are held outside of normal office hours.
